WHAT COULD GO WRONG?
Celebrating 20+ years as a band is special. Taking time to make music for the sake of the sound, the soul, and the groove is precious. What Could Go Wrong? by Dan Nichols and Eighteen is a celebration of that creative spirit. The goal? Book a vibey Nashville studio and escape into a creative space with bandmates Mark Niemiec and Nathan Meckel for four days. The result? An album of striking depth and insight into Dan’s increasing awareness of a marriage in crisis. The sound heralds back to Dan’s roots as an indie-rock devotee. The songs are full of fun, irreverence, energy, honesty, lyrical fantasy, and playful hooks. What Could Go Wrong? is an intentional departure from the 25 year Dan Nichols and Eighteen album catalog. At the same time these songs are a return to what Dan, Mark, and Nathan have always loved about being in a band together for over twenty years- playing hard, playing smart, and playing together.
ONE WHO WILL STRUGGLE: MUSIC FOR PRAYER
One Who Will Struggle serves as a companion to Dan’s previous collection of prayer music, Beautiful and Broken. The sound of this project embraces acoustic arrangements of mostly Jewish liturgy intended for use in Jewish worship.
I WILL NOT FEAR
On June 2, 2018 my father, Bill Nichols, died. He battled stage four colon cancer for six and a half years. During that period of time, I had my struggles as well. Watching a parent die is hard. Facing the feelings that swirled within me while saying goodbye to my dad was challenging and confusing. Recording this album has provided me with a direction for coping. I Will Not Fear is a collection of songs intended to speak truth to my higher power- feelings of depression, anxiety, and hopelessness. I pray that this collection will resonate and provide support to others who find themselves walking a similar path. Thank you for listening.
I BELIEVE
Welcome to my sonic diary. Consider it a sort of sampler. These songs were inspired by the people, questions, delights & conflicts I met over the last 5 years. Put on your headphones, light a candle, turn the lights down low-go for a joy ride in my mind. Thanks for listening. -Dan
BEAUTIFUL AND BROKEN: MUSIC FOR PRAYER
For years people who like my music have been nudging me for an all acoustic album. I got the message. Finally. This collection is born out of my dedicated and willing struggle with Jewish prayers and psalms.
Beautiful and Broken features Elana Arian on vocals and violin. My dear sister, Cody, sang on a few songs as well. I believe Elana, Cody, and I have created something elegant and holy. I'm proud to share this album with you.
